"Trash the Dress" A little more detail and explanation.
The phrase "Trash the Dress" is the very latest marketing buzzword in contemporary wedding photography. It originated in Australia and LA, where some brides literally trashed their dress after the wedding. This involved beach photography with the couple usually ending up in the sea. Other examples would be the desert outside Las Vegas. Brides changing car tyres, Brides horse riding etc, downtown city shoots……..in fact anything that was extreme enough from a normal wedding day scenario

The latest trend is a move towards personal expression and doing something a little different. Expect to see an increase in post wedding fashion shoots, where the pressure is off and those with an inclination can really go to town.
Inspiration is drawn from fashion magazines, cinema and MTV videos. The dress isn’t destroyed, its about relaxing, letting go of all the hang ups about the wedding day.
Most likely the dress may get dirty in the process, but the emphasis is on creativity, freedom and fun, and certainly not on an "obligatory trashing".

What is a Trash the Dress Session?
Now that the wedding is over, you have two choices of what to do with the dress. You can suffocate it in a plastic bag and hope that your daughter will want to wear it in 20 years, (which she won’t) or you can put it back on and have some fun.
Do I have to really trash it?
Of course not! It's just a fun session to do when you have more time than the day of the wedding or a situation you wouldn't dare do the day of the wedding. Sure you can get a little risky with it, like splashing in water or riding horseback in the snow since the fear of getting it dirty is over, but you don't have to.
Can I still do a session if you didn't shoot my wedding?
Absolutely! We can certainly add a little spice to your wedding collection even if we didn't cover the actual event. This is the perfect opportunity to add a different style to your wedding photos and some out of the ordinary locations.

As you will have seen from our Trash the Dress blog, we are offering our brides the opportunity to have a post wedding dress shoot. I think that's the way we will be phrasing our Trash shoots.

We aren't suggesting you trash your dress..........maybe that's taking things to the extreme. What we will suggest is you leave your inhibitions behind..........let your creativity flow, and enjoy a fun photo shoot with the wedding dress back on.

Alexandra's Christening (click here)

What a lovely family Alexandra has. There was just so many smiles at this christening. In fact I'm sure even Looby Lou the dog was smiling. Alexandra's house was literally across the road from the Church and fantastic Edwardian Asssembly rooms where the celebrations took place.
An absolute joy from a photography point of view to be able to capture uninterupted coverage of the whole event. We often see our European cousins make more of family celebrations than we do. Well thats not the case here, this really was a great coming together of family and friends. A real credit to Ann and Glenn for their tasteful hospitality and lavish generosity. This is my favourite image, a striking contemporary monochrome image of the magnificent church architecture, Grandma and her grandchildren.

The Helen Winterson Fashion Show

You may recall from our August blog we were exhibiting and shooting at the

Midsummer Evening Gala at Marple Bridge.

A fabulous evening raising over £2500 for the Alzheimers Soceity.

Congratulations to Mandy Mottram on successfully outbidding everyone else for one of our Lifestyle Portrait shoots.....we look forward to creating some stunning images for you.

Stars of the show went to the models from Helen Winterson.

The light was challenging, as the stage lighting was set up for a band and disco, not a fashion show, but professionalism prevailed. It reminded me of the Daily Express days....don't even think about coming back with no snaps was a regular instruction from the picture desk.

That fear never leaves you!

Village Brides Runaway Success

Congratulations to Gemma, Laura and Hayley. Their published image received a "Distinction" in the August edition of Digital SLR Photography magazine. I submitted the image to the monthly competition on Photographic techniques. This months subject was movement. Grades are awarded for every entry, culminating in an overall annual prize. There are two months to go, and our final entry is a very creative and striking image in the Animal category.....watch this space!

That's how we like to approach our coverage. We use a mixture of documentary, traditional, reportage and editorial photography. This gives us the right blend of images for what is a most significant family event.
